Who we are
RootWise Home is a small, new plant-care store — opened in 2026, run by its founder, built around one product to start: a battery-free analog soil moisture meter. We are not horticulturists and we don't claim to be. We're a store that reads a lot, cites its sources, and refuses to say things we can't back up.
Why this site exists
Most plant-gear pages promise too much: "100% accurate," "never overwater again," five-star reviews from day one. We built RootWise Home as the opposite experiment — a shop where the product page tells you what we haven't verified yet, the guides tell you when not to buy, and the watering advice starts with the truth that no fixed schedule works.
How we handle information
Every claim on this site falls into one of three buckets, and we try to make it obvious which one you're reading:
- Sourced guidance. Plant-care advice in our field guides and the watering cheat sheet is drawn from university extension publications (Maryland, Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa State) and linked at the bottom of the page it appears on. If a university source contradicts us, the university wins — tell us and we'll fix it.
- General experience. Practical habits — probe in a few spots, wipe the probe dry, water less in winter — that reflect broadly accepted practice. Useful, but not lab science, and we say so.
- Product data we have NOT yet physically verified. Our meter's spec sheet marks these clearly as UNVERIFIED / "Pending first-unit inspection." When we've measured a spec ourselves, the label changes to MEASURED. Until then, we'd rather look new than lie.
What "honest retail" means here
- No fake or imported reviews. Zero reviews today means exactly that — the store is new. When reviews arrive, they'll be real.
- No invented specs, no invented rankings, no "we tested 20 meters" theater. When we publish test results, they'll describe exactly what we did.
- Real shipping expectations and a real 30-day return policy, linked in the footer, written before we asked anyone for a dollar.
Where we're honest about the limits
Our meter is a decision aid, not a lab instrument. Salty or heavily fertilized soil can skew readings; dense or sandy mixes read differently; a single reading in one spot proves little. Our own guides say this in plain language, because a tool you trust half-way — knowingly — beats a promise you'll regret.
